Modular AC Drawworks
The IDM Modular AC Drawworks is designed to take advantage of the latest capabilities in AC drive and control technology. AC drives provide wide operating speed range, electronic braking, accurate speed, torque, and position control. Utilizing this performance requires a drawworks matched to drive. The IDM MAC series (Modular AC) is the perfect match for IDM Equipment AC drives.

The IDM Modular AC Drawworks utilizes many advanced features developed by IDM for efficient and cost effective operation when driven by a modern IDM Equipment Variable Frequency AC Drive System. This design is a high performance AC powered drawworks that can be used on conventional drilling rigs. The MAC (Modular AC) series of drawworks utilizes IDM’s proven gear drive for quiet and reliable operation. This greatly reduces the size and weight of the drawworks.

Primary braking is by AC motor regeneration. The mechanical brake is for parking or emergency stopping. Depending on drawworks rating, air cooled caliper brakes or water cooled disc brakes are incorporated for parking/emergency braking.

The following table is based on an IDM 1,500 HP AC vs. a typical 1,500 HP DC drawworks.
